Floor mosaics featuring skeletons were quite popular forms of decoration in ancient Roman dining rooms. Skeletons were also featured on dinner ware and drinking cups, such as this famous example originally from a villa in Campania and now in the Louvre.
Recently, a fabulous mosaic featuring an imbibing skeleton was found at the ancient city of Antioch in Turkey.
Here’s a nice summary of the discovery: http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/41874
